Will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Really Move to Africa After the Birth of the Royal Baby?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have just moved into Frogmore Cottage, but rumor has it that they could be making another major move next year—this time, to Africa.
According to trusted British newspaper The Sunday Times, per Harper’s Bazaar, the couple’s advisers are working on ways to harness the rockstar royal couple’s powers, which could mean moving overseas for a two to three year stint to continue their work in the commonwealth as well as with various charities. “Courtiers have drawn up plans to hand the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a major international job that could see them moving abroad after the birth of their child,” a source told The Sunday Times. "Discussions are at an early stage, but the plan is to find a new way of using their soft power abilities, most likely in Africa." However, the publication also notes that it’s unlikely that a decision will be made until 2020, when Meghan and Harry have “settled down with their new baby,” who is expected in a matter of days.
The couple has spent a lot of time together in Botswana, and the country has come to hold a very special place in both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s hearts. They traveled to the country together in 2016 on their third date, and returned there for Meghan’s birthday in 2017. In fact, Meghan’s engagement ring even features a conflict-free central diamond from the African nation.
Buckingham Palace has responded to these reports, and the statement doesn’t completely rule out the prospect that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be relocating. “Any future plans for the Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles,” it wrote, per E! News. "The Duke will continue to fulfill his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.”
