Meghan Markle Talks About Making Her Wedding Feel "Intimate" in a New Exhibition
It's been a little over a year since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married in a historic royal wedding at Windsor Castle. Although more than 600 guests attended the event and 29 million people watched on television, Markle reveals in a new recording for the exhibition "A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex” that she did her best to make the day feel as intimate as possible.
Both Markle and Prince Harry had their commentary featured as part of the audio guide for the show, which recently opened in the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland after debuting in London. In the recording, Markle talks about how despite all of the royal fanfare that went into the wedding, she and Prince Harry added lots of little touches to create a more personal celebration.
“A great level of detail went into the planning of our wedding day,” Markle says “We knew how large the scale of the event would be, so in making choices that were really personal and meaningful, it could make the whole experience feel intimate.”
The exhibition includes her iconic Givenchy gown and her 16-foot veil, which was one of the pieces she personalized by including embroidery of all of the signature flowers of the British Commonwealth. Visitors can also see Prince Harry's Blues and Royals military uniform firsthand and hear him discuss why he chose that specific ensemble for the event.
“I chose the frock coat as a uniform, with permission from my grandmother, because I think it’s one of the smartest Household Cavalry uniforms,” he said. “It’s one of my favorites, and I was very fortunate to be able to wear that on the day.”
The couple also joked about how smoothly everything ran, despite the 10 young children that served in their wedding court. “We had 10 bridesmaids and page boys under the age of 7, which everybody says is impossible to have them behaving, but they did it!” Prince Harry said. “It was a miracle!” Markle adds. Looks like the two of them had a knack for kids from day one—now, they're busy enjoying a baby of their own with their adorable new son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
